The Česká Lípa plant is one of Johnson Controls’ largest battery volume production plants worldwide

Česká Lípa, Czech Republic – 15. May 2014. Johnson Controls unveiled a new polypropylene plastic plant in Česká Lípa today, which will bring 100 new jobs to the city. The new plant supplies boxes, lids and top covers for automotive batteries, which are manufactured at a Johnson Controls plant in the same industrial park. The new plastics plant will help make Johnson Controls’ practices more sustainable by reducing transportation distances. The battery production plant in Česká Lípa supplies one of the largest volumes of batteries to customers among plants owned by Johnson Controls, a global multi-industrial company.

The new poly plant equipment features a range of best-in-class technologies as well as sustainable practices. A portion of the plant’s power will come from solar panels on the roof. An advanced recycling system will allow Johnson Controls to minimize plastic waste by reincorporating all unused scrap into the production process. At full capacity the plant will be able to produce more than 15 million battery boxes, top covers and lids each year.

At the plant opening ceremony, Johnson Controls welcomed high-ranking company representatives and guests. Johann-Friedrich Dempwolff, Managing Director of Johnson Controls Power Solutions EMEA said, “Česká Lípa is a very important business location for Johnson Controls. We are proud of our employees in the region and of the good cooperation with the city government.”

Johnson Controls in Liberec region

Johnson Controls operates four manufacturing facilities in the Liberec region. The company began operating in Česká Lípa in 1992, when a manufacturing plant for car seat covers was established. The production of automotive batteries started in 1944 in the plant Autobaterie Česká Lípa, which was privatized by VARTA AG in 1991. Johnson Controls Power Solutions acquired the automotive batteries division from VARTA in 2002.

In addition to the new poly plant, the automotive battery plant and the original car seat covers plant, Johnson Controls operates one additional car seat covers plant in the Liberec region, making the company one of the largest employers in the region.

In the Czech Republic, the company operates a total of 10 plants and one office location, with more than 6,000 employees countrywide.
