Al Salem Johnson Controls earns Kingdom’s first prestigious product safety certification
YORK® air handling units meet Underwriters Laboratories’ stringent requirements for electrical devices and components

Jeddah, March 2014: Al Salem Johnson Controls, a joint venture between the Al Salem group of companies and Johnson Controls, a global multi-industrial company with established core businesses in the automotive, building and energy storage industries, is the first in the Kingdom to receive international safety certification from Underwriters Laboratories (UL) for its YORK® air handling units.

UL, a global independent safety science company based in the United States, confirmed the air handling equipment is in full compliance with UL1995 standard requirements for safe

use of electrical devices and components. Compliance to the UL standard enhances manufacturers’ opportunities to expand their markets worldwide.

With more than 2,000 employees, Al Salem Johnson Controls is a leading air conditioning manufacturer and service company in Saudi Arabia, providing solutions ranging from residential units to high-capacity chillers, manufactured at its Jeddah factory.

Commenting on the recognition, Eng. Basil Abdulaziz, vice president and general manager of Al Salem Johnson Controls, Saudi Arabia and Lebanon, said: “With this important certificate, we have accomplished a new milestone towards exceeding our customers’ expectations, and I congratulate our manufacturing team on this major success.”

The YORK® air handling units are also certified with the CE Mark, which signifies product safety up to European standards.

Abdulaziz added: “These global certifications confirm our success in maintaining the highest operational and technical standards at our manufacturing facility in Saudi Arabia.”

Historically, UL has participated in the safety analysis of many of the last century's new technologies, most notably the public adoption of electricity and the drafting of safety standards for electrical devices and components.
