Johnson Controls to manage Shell’s corporate headquarters in The Hague with new contract in the Netherlands

Johnson Controls Global WorkPlace Solutions (GWS), a leading provider of facilities, commercial real estate and energy management to many of the world’s largest companies, has extended its global relationship with Shell International to provide workplace projects and facilities management services at four locations in the Netherlands, including the energy and petrochemicals company’s corporate headquarters in The Hague.

The new two-year agreement covers Shell’s portfolio of sites in Assen, Rijswijk, Amsterdam and The Hague and includes a variety of buildings such as offices, chemical and geological laboratories, learning centers, research halls, workshops and their surrounding grounds. The Shell sites have a combined internal area in excess of 4,100,000ft² (380,000m²). In total, Johnson Controls GWS will employ 130 people at the sites as mechanical and electrical technicians as well as administrators.

Shell Real Estate, Transition Manager, Jos de Feijter, said: “We are pleased to start this new relationship with Johnson Controls GWS. Together with Johnson Controls GWS, we will work towards further simplification and standardization of the way we provide services over these four sites. We are confident that the professionalism and broad knowledge of Johnson Controls GWS will enable us to continuously focus on providing high quality services.”

Johnson Controls GWS, Vice President Oil and Gas Market, Paul Morgan, said: “This agreement builds on the long-standing global relationship that we have with Shell. The range of services and project work covered by the agreement is very different to the existing work that we do for Shell, as it includes a number of research and development laboratories, as well as the company’s iconic headquarters. However, one thing that is common across all Shell facilities that we manage is the emphasis on health and safety, the environment and security.”

The new agreement builds on the services that Johnson Controls GWS provides to Shell Real Estate in the US, Canada and Brazil, which includes technical facilities management and project management at a range of sites that house data centers, research and development centers, offices and laboratories.

Johnson Controls GWS also manages and maintains 11,000 of Shell’s fuel retail sites in 24 countries in EMEA, the Americas and Asia-Pacific, under an agreement that was signed last year. Recently that agreement was extended for a further two years until 2015. Johnson Controls GWS’ partnership with Shell began in 2005.
